"Sharon Elaine," my mother said. "Nothing is going to happen, unless you make it happen." I guess the desire to succeed is what kept me going. I was the first female from both sides of my family to graduate from college.
I can still remember the first time I took a book home to read from school. I sat in the hallway, with my back against the wall, near the kitchen. Mother was always at the stove and she never had time to listen to me read. Whenever, I came across I word I could not figure out, I walked up to her and asked what the word was. It would have been ideal to know how to read, before entering elementary school. I would have been ahead, instead of having to work hard to get to the top.
