Introduction: Structure Phrases and Sentences

This step is easy, because it really has already been accomplished.  Using white cards with a width larger than 1 inch, copy each sentence from the book, Hop on Pop, on a card.  The cards will need to have three holes punched at one end, so they can be placed on loose-leaf rings.  The words need to be written in black, using one-inch, lower-case letters.

Directions:

Teach one new card per day.  The parent holds up the card and reads it slowly.  The parent asks the child what the card says, pointing to each individual word.  Make a huge fuss and celebrate.  Have one’s child place the card into the loose-leaf rings.

Remember, each day a new card is written and added to the loose-leaf rings.  If all goes well, one’s child will have a make-it-yourself book.

As each page is added, the previous pages are re-read.

Now, it is time to select a book to read together.  Listen and assist as needed.
